This delicious goat cheese appetizer can be made ahead and heated at serving time. It's great for taking to parties. It is one of my most requested recipes.

Bake and Broil Dish

  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, until hot.
  • Optional: Place under broiler for a few minutes. Keep a close eye on it, and remove just as the cheese starts to brown. It's better to remove from the broiler early rather than late. Serve with crackers.

Notes

If you are lucky enough to have fresh figs, use them in place of the dried figs.  If using fresh figs, use a few more of them and cut them in halves rather than quarters.
For dried figs, I have used black mission figs.
This dish can be assembled ahead of time and refrigerated to be heated at serving time.  It's great to bring to parties if the host has the oven available for you to heat the dish.
The broiling is optional.  When I take this dish to a party, I generally skip the broiling part to keep things easy and avoid creating too much commotion in the kitchen.
In addition to crackers, this recipe is good served on rye bread or rye toast.
