Ingredients You Should Try: Mangos

tuna with mango lime salsa

It’s easy to fall into the routine of always using the same ingredients when cooking. I did not grow up eating mangos, and they were not on my list of usual groceries. That has changed. Mangos are sweet, delicious and full of health benefits. They are great as a snack on their own or as part of a fruit side dish or snack. When you have a bit more time, I recommend trying the Mango-Lime Salsa that is part of both of the attached recipes.

I love mangoes! Is there a trick to peeling and cutting the fruit from a fresh mango? I like the jarred fruit, but hard to find.

    1. If your mango is ripe and juicy, try cutting off a large piece of the unpeeled mango just outside the pit. Turn the piece skin side down and cut the mango (not the skin) into a grid. Then take a spoon and scoop out the pieces. (Also, I like to use this method for avocado.)

Great prompt to try mangos. Any tips on testing for ripeness?

    1. Press on the outside of the mango and check for softness. It’s a little like checking an avocado or a red pear.
